State Facing a Possible Drought; Reducing Pumping from the Delta is Wasting Precious Water

Federal and state regulators recently announced their water restrictions from the Delta. Vice Chair of the Natural Resources Committee Assemblywoman Alexandra Macedo (R-Tulare), who represents the largest agricultural region in California, issued the following statement:

“Communities across the Central Valley are in dire need of reliable water – from residents in East Porterville to farmers in Kings County who grow our food.

“Restricting water flow from the Delta hurts farmers, their workers and their communities, thus creating food insecurity and endangering livelihoods for the sake of the Delta smelt.

“California’s water crisis cannot be solved by restricting resources critical to our state’s economy. Water management must balance environmental considerations with the urgent demands of the millions of Californians who rely on these water supplies to survive.

“A drought may be lurking around the corner. The State cannot afford to waste any water. The future of our farms, families and communities is at stake.”
