Assemblywoman Alexandra M. Macedo – District Newsletter, September 23rd, 2025

This week‚ the Governor signed into law legislation that will ban law enforcement officials from wearing masks while conducting operations. This law intends to stop federal law enforcement from operating in California‚ but the state does not have the authority to regulate federal officers. Instead‚ this bill will only regulate local police officers while state agencies‚ like the California Highway Patrol‚ are exempt from this mandate. This bill sets a dangerous precedent and will cause confusion when state and local officials work together. Many law enforcement officials wear face coverings to protect officers from retaliation after gang arrests or drug busts‚ and without that protection‚ these officials can become targets when in public.

The 33rd Assembly District encompasses Tulare‚ Kings‚ and Fresno Counties.
