Sacramento – The California Association of Mutual Water Companies has awarded Assemblyman Devon Mathis with its 2023 “Small Water Systems Champions” award for his work promoting water access for Californians. Assemblyman Mathis issued the following statement upon receiving the award:
“I’m honored that Cal Mutuals recognizes my work promoting water access to all Californians. Our state’s water policy is, quite frankly, atrocious. We don’t build enough water storage, and much of our rainwater gets flushed into the Pacific. We live in the 4th largest economy in the world and we still have 3rd world water conditions. This is unacceptable; just this week, another emergency was declared (Tule) for families without water. Despite these challenges, my Office has pushed bills to streamline the construction of new water projects in our state and ensure that businesses & residents have access to clean & affordable water. Thank you to Cal Mutuals for recognizing my efforts to improve our state’s water policy and I will continue to fight for this critical issue.”
