Past Legislative Successes - Resolutions

Leg Year - 2017-2018

Finds that there is a significant population in California without a Social Security number, and that the Unruh Civil Rights Act guarantees access to business services offered to the public and a violation arises if a person is denied access to a business service based on his or her immigration status. Urges Congress to prevail upon the Department of Defense to realign their criteria for the safe harbor provisions in the Military Lending Act (MLA), which require a lender to obtain the full name, date of birth, and social security number of a loan applicant to check against the Department of Defense MLA database.

AJR 11: California Agricultural Industry

Urges the President and the Congress of the United States to recognize the importance of the California agricultural industry to our nation, to keep California’s farmers, ranchers, and farmworkers in mind when considering global trade and immigration matters, and to break down barriers to agricultural trade.

AJR 13: National Aeronautics And Space Administration

Urges the President and Congress to continue to place an emphasis on increasing funding to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s (NASA) budget and encouraging the expansive use of public-private partnerships to propel the industry forward into the next generation of advancement.

AJR 18: Korean Peninsula: Regional Peace And Stability

Calls on the federal government to take appropriate measures to facilitate stability in the Korean region, build goodwill that is conducive to peace on the Korean Peninsula, and minimize potential negative impacts to the South Korean economy.  Contains information about the Korean War, the state of ongoing Korean division, and the economic relationship between South Korea and California.

AJR 34: Agricultural Workers: Labor Shortages

Urges the Congress of the United States to acknowledge the problem of a labor shortage in the agricultural industry in California and to work together with California to solve the issue.

AJR 38: Dams And Reservoirs: Federal Jurisdiction: Safety

Urges the Congress of the United States to implement revised dam safety and inspection requirements for all federally operated and regulated dams and reservoirs for the purpose of ensuring public safety.

HR 8: American Heart Month And Wear Red Day In California

Recognizes the month of February 2017 as American Heart Month in California; and, recognizes February 3, 2017, as Wear Red Day in California.

HR 9: Women’s History Month

Joins the California Commission on the Status of Women and Girls in honoring the contributions of women, and proclaims the month of March 2017 as Women’s History Month.

HR 14: Social Work Month

Proclaims March 2017 as Social Work Month in California, and commends the California Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers for its role in advancing professional social work and promoting the well-being of the people of California.

HR 16: Read Across America Day

Joins the California Teachers Association in recognizing March 2, 2017, as “Read Across America Day”.

HR 17: Cinco De Mayo Week

Declares May 1, 2017, through May 5, 2017, as Cinco de Mayo Week, celebrates Cinco de Mayo, and recognizes the Latino noncombatants in California and the Latinos of California who fought to defend the freedom of the United States.

HR 18: Season For Nonviolence

Proclaims January 30, 2017, to April 4, 2017, as the 20th annual Season for Nonviolence.

HR 19: Earned Income Tax Credit Week

Declares the week of February 19-25, 2017, as California Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Week.  Makes numerous unsupported statements about the effectiveness and impact of California’s EITC.

HR 20: California Dream Act Of 2011

Encourages California residents eligible for in-state tuition and financial aid under the California Dream Act to fill out the California Dream Act application and continue the process of applying for college.

HR 21: California Women And Girls In STEM Week

Declares April 2-8, 2017, as Women and Girls in STEM Week and encourages all citizens and community organizations to support its observance.
