Assemblyman Thurston Smitty Smith Announces 2021 33rd Assembly District Woman of the Year

HESPERIA, CA – Assemblyman Thurston “Smitty” Smith announced Friday his nomination of Amy Pullen as the 2021 33rd Assembly District’s Woman of the Year.

Amy was born and raised in Hesperia where she graduated from Hesperia High School. After discovering an interest in the health sciences and following the footsteps her mother, Amy enrolled in nursing school at Western Oklahoma State College and graduated with her nursing degree. For the past 20 years, Amy has served in multiple capacities at Desert Valley Hospital including the Director of the Emergency Department and in 2018 she was promoted to the role of Chief Nursing Officer.

During the past 10 months, Amy has continued to show her clinical and leadership abilities by working collaboratively with all medical departments in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In addition to serving the healthcare needs of Victorville, Amy has been married to her high school sweetheart, Joshua for the past 24 years and is the mother of two children: daughter Kalee (17), and son Caleb (14).

“It is a distinguished honor to select Amy Pullen as the 2021 Woman of the Year in the 33rd District. Amy has been a lifelong resident of the High Desert and remains committed to leading our hospitals through the most difficult public health crisis in modern history” said Assemblyman Thurston “Smitty” Smith.
