Assemblywoman Alexandra M. Macedo – District Newsletter, April 24‚ 2026

Lorenso’s Law ‑ Assembly Bill 2040 – a measure to bring back accountability in our justice system. Unfortunately‚ it was denied passage by the Assembly Public Safety Committee.

AB 2040 was inspired by Lorenso Sanchez‚ a 17‑year‑old high school student who was tragically stabbed and killed by a juvenile last year outside of the Hanford Mall.

Before the committee hearing‚ I was honored to be joined by Lorenso’s mother‚ Julia Sanchez‚ Sacramento Sheriff Jim Cooper‚ Chief Esa Ehmen‑Krause‚ President of the Chief Probation Officers of California and Nina Salarno of Crime Victims United and District Attorney of Modoc County at a press conference to emphasize the need for change. Juveniles who commit heinous crimes must be held accountable for their actions.

Given the importance of this measure‚ we will bring this measure back next year.
