Sacramento – Today, the Assembly Appropriations Committee approved AB 322 and AB 883, authored by Assemblyman Mathis, which would assist veterans who are in college and would ensure expedited business licensure privileges for veterans. Assemblyman Mathis issued the following statement upon the passage of these bills:

“I am pleased the Appropriations Committee approved my bills designed to help veterans who are transitioning back into civilian life. As a combat vet myself, I understand the challenges veterans face when we get done with active duty service so I take a special interest in ensuring the heroes who served our nation get the assistance they need when they get back. AB 322 would push the California State University, California Community College, and University of California systems to include, during student orientation, the locations & the point of contact for students who are veterans. This bill would basically establish a streamlined process to inform veterans, who are now students, of the on-campus services & resources that are available to them & their dependents. AB 883 would require the Department of Consumer Affairs licensing board to expedite the licensure process for veterans enrolled in the Defense Department’s SkillBridge program. This bill would assist veterans and active-duty personnel in bridging the gap between the end of their military service and the beginning of their civilian careers. Thank you to the Appropriations Committee for passing these bills to help our veterans and I look forward to continuing to assist our heroes as they transition back into civilian life.”
