On June 1‚ the California StateAssembly celebrated PortugueseHeritage Month with the passageof Assembly ConcurrentResolution 185.
This legislative measure declaresthe month of June 2026 to bePortuguese Heritage Month andrecognizes June 10‚ 2026‚ as theDay of Portugal and May 25‚ 2026‚as the Day of the Azores. It furtherhonors the countlesscontributions of the 350‚000 Portuguese Californians who are the bedrock of our state’sdairy industry.

For decades‚ Portuguese Americans have contributed immensely to California’s economy‚culture and history.
In carrying out my family tradition of sharing food during the Portuguese Holy GhostFesta‚ I presented a loaf of sweet bread from Pastry Delight in Tulare to each of mycolleagues.

Brought to California by immigrants in the 1800s, the Holy Ghost Festa honors QueenIsabel of Portugal for her charity. The vibrant celebrations are famous for parades‚crowning of festival queens‚ and sharing meals with family and friends.
As the granddaughter of immigrants from the Azores Islands‚ it was an honor to recognizeour history and heritage in the Capitol.
Joining us in this celebration were Filipe Ramalheira‚ Consul General of Portugal andDiniz Borges‚ President of the California Portuguese American Coalition.
